Reduta Jazz Club · Národní 20, New Town
A concert ticket with a reserved seat at Reduta, the club on Národní street that has put on jazz since 1957 and where Bill Clinton played the saxophone in 1994. Choose it for the history and a full live set on land, with the band right in front of you.

Reduta is at Národní 20, a few minutes' walk from the National Theatre, in the New Town. The bassist Jan Arnet founded it in 1957, at a time when the Communist government frowned on jazz, and the group Studio 5 gave its first concert here the next year. Wynton Marsalis, Dave Brubeck and Chick Corea have played the room. In the Velvet Revolution it was a meeting place, and in 1994 Václav Havel gave Bill Clinton a saxophone, which he played in a jam session on this stage. The club calls itself the oldest continuously operated jazz and theatre club in the world; Wikipedia settles for the oldest jazz club in Prague.
The ticket is a reserved seat for one concert. A concert lasts about 2 hours from Sunday to Thursday and 90 minutes on Friday and Saturday. Shows start at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m. or 8 p.m., with a later 9:15 p.m. show on some nights. For the early shows the club asks you to arrive at least 45 minutes before; for the 9:15 p.m. show, 15 minutes is enough. With a standard ticket the manager assigns your seat. The VIP option books the best seats, where Havel and Clinton once sat, and adds a welcome drink. The programme ranges from swing and Dixieland to mainstream, blues, funk and bossa nova, often with a singer, so read the night's billing if you want instrumental jazz.
Food and drinks are not included. Reduta does not serve meals, only bar snacks, so eat before. The Saxophone Bar, set apart from the hall, pours beer from a golden saxophone and has Reduta's own cuvée wine. Coats, jackets and bags are not allowed in the hall, and the cloakroom is free. The club is not wheelchair accessible: there are a few steps down to the hall, and the staff will help. There is no age limit, and children under 5 go free. Pets, food and large bags stay outside.
Find the entrance on Národní street near the National Theatre. Arrive 45 minutes before a 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m. or 8 p.m. show, 15 minutes before a 9:15 p.m. show.
Hand in coats, jackets and bags; the cloakroom is free. Ask staff for your concert's entrance so you do not join the queue for another show.
Order a beer from the golden saxophone or a glass of Reduta cuvée. Bar snacks only, no meals.
Staff seat you: assigned seats with a standard ticket, the best ones with VIP. The lights go down and the band starts.
About 2 hours from Sunday to Thursday, 90 minutes on Friday and Saturday. Then you are on Národní, close to the river.
